Searching For The Perfect Watch

Time for a confession: I haven’t worn a watch for at least 10 years.

Not because I can’t tell the time or because I rely on my phone but my body hates watches. Seriously. I can wear a watch and within hours/days/weeks it’ll break. I’ve tried taking watches back to the manufacturers and complaining yet they don’t find a fault. The problem is ME! I’ve since looked into it after breaking numerous expensive watches and it’s all to do with the electric current running through the body. Whilst the majority of people have no problems with technology my messed up body decides it doesn’t like watches, cameras and phones. In fact years ago my friend’s central locking in her car used to play up when I was travelling!

Recently though I’ve been fine with phones and cameras (touch wood) so I’ve decided it’s time to invest in a watch (excuse the pun). My problem is after years of not wearing a watch I don’t know what style to go for and I’m wary of buying an expensive one in case it breaks. I desperately need one for work so had a quick search one lunchtime in New Look and Primark and none suffice. Also seen a couple on the John Lewis website but they are all bloody sold out.

I know what I don’t want:

Plastic
Cheap looking
Digital
One of those charm bracelet types
Novelty i.e. with ears or mustaches on
A rip off of a designer style

Unsurprisingly the few watches I have seen and liked are all designer – Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors and Lulu Guinness.

I want something classic that’ll go with anything I’m wearing, not too big and not too small. I’m beginning to feel a bit like Goldilocks here….

Here’s what I’ve found on the internet:

Limit via WatchShop.com £24.99

Limit at WatchShop.com £24.99

Not really sure if this is very “me” but it looks small and discreet.

River Island at ASOS £20

River Island at ASOS £20

The colour mix of metals would work well with my jewellery. Annoying that they don’t have it on the River Island website or instore though.

Oasis at H Samuel £33.99

Oasis at H Samuel £33.99

Clearly I’m feeling the two tone.

Timex at Jewellery Junkies £58.49

Timex at Jewellery Junkies £58.49

Bit more expensive than I was aiming for but this is exactly the kind of watch I’d like.

Not a whole lot to choose from, don’t even think I’m being particularly picky!

Any suggestions of nice yet inexpensive watches?

Fun In The Ferry

Saturday saw blue skies and sunshine so the bestest and I headed to South Queensferry with her little boy for a picnic under the famous Forth Rail Bridge.

Forth Rail Bridge

My photos really don’t do the weather justice but it was warm enough for bare legs and arms although I did eventually have to wear my cardigan.

Picnic

Yvonne very kindly provided the picnic which also included pate, oat cakes, crisps and sweeties – the diet was definitely screwed that day! And to thank her for making such a gorgeous spread I treated us to ice cream later on in the day. Luckily for us Yvonne’s little boy L didn’t mind being dragged around the shops, he did end up with an umbrella or rumberella as he was calling it. South Queensferry has some cute little boutiques and the charity shop we visited was unbelievably cheap.

 1. Antique store window display

2. Scarf display

3. ❤ this quote “I love the way you can take a rainy day and make it glisten with diamonds”

The other reason we went to South Queensferry was for the stunning backgrounds for photo opportunities, unfortunately neither Yvonne nor myself are professional photographers (or very good ones, in my case) so the shots aren’t quite what we aimed for although we did have a giggle taking the pictures.

It wouldn’t be a day/night out without a pic of us doing peace pout!

As the clouds began to darken we headed to Craigleith for some retail therapy where I purchased another Cynthia Rowley dress (post coming soon) and the most fantabulous heels

053 054

Just a lil sneak peek but I will photograph them properly soon.

These gorgeous heels cost £12 from TK Maxx and I think they will go nicely with 99% of my wardrobe and accessories including the necklace I picked up from the charity shop for £1 earlier on in the day

Overall a great day out with the best company and fun to discover new shops 🙂

The Magic Of Monochrome

Like alot of women out there a LARGE percentage of my wardrobe is made up of black clothing. Luckily for those of us who embrace the dark side come Spring time we will be seeing monochrome kicking in BIG time. As seen on the catwalks of Roland Mouret, Jason Wu, Michael Kors and Ralp Lauren Monochrome oozes chicness. The best thing about this trend is that it really is timeless.

Weird Cravings!

No I’m not preggo I just thought the title suited the post!

Every so often, out of the blue I decided I want an item and I can’t settle until I have it. Unfortunately these weird clothes cravings happen when said item is either a) out of season b) out of my budget or c) the high street is awash with said garment but it’s never exactly what I’m looking for.

Like at some point this morning I realised that my wardrobe would be so much better if I owned a black leather skirt. Not just any black leather skirt but a flippy or pleated black leather skirt (admit it you just read that in a M&S advert kinda way didn’t ya???) I feel this versatile piece deserves a place in my wardrobe and it would stop me from wearing dresses quite so often. Think about it a black leather skirt would go with ALOT of tops and so far I haven’t seen many peoples wearing them.

Clueless has to be one of my favouritest movies ever and the scene when Paul Rudd is sitting by the pool wearing a suit and shades and then Alicia Silverstone approaches wearing a black leather flippy skirt with matching black leather jacket is forever ingrained in my mind. Annoyingly I can’t find a  decent photo of this 😦

I’m not for a second suggesting I’d wear double leather – jokes about cows come to mind – but that’s the kind of skirt I want. Below are a selection of black leather skirts I’ve found online that seem to fit the bill.

ASOS Premium £90

This is pretty ideal but at the moment I don’t have a spare 90 bucks to spend.

MCQ Alexander McQueen £645

Of course if I had mad money this beauty would be getting snapped up pronto.

Rebecca Taylor £395

Absolutely divine and could be worn year after year.

Oasis £42

The only skirt I’ve found within my price range but it isn’t quite right. 1) It’s not leather but what do I expect for £42. 2) It isn’t pleated or flippy enough.

My only hope is that I either win the lottery/inherit megabucks or some anonymous lovely person decides to buy me the ASOS or Rebecca Taylor number.

Do you ever have weird clothing cravings?
