December & January Round Up

Working in retail AND hospitality over the festive period has alot to answer for. I’ve missed blogging but simply didn’t have the time to offer some quality posts so please forgive my absence.

This will be a photo heavy post showing what’s kept me busy since I lasted posted.

December

At work one day we had a “Christmas Glam” theme. Whilst this outfit isn’t as glam as I would have liked due to the almost freezing temperatures in my shop layering was crucial!

Outfit deets:

Headband: Tesco

Cardigan: River Island

Jumper: H! By Henry Holland

Skirt, tights and socks: Primark

Boots: New Look

I freakin ❤ this H! By Henry Holland jumper and have worn it loads. The split in the skirt was far too revealing to wear without tights but I quite liked the effect of the printed hosiery with this outfit.

Another month another (few) trip(s) to Madeleines for some mouth wateringly good desserts.

December saw me become an aunty again 🙂

My sister gave birth to another beautiful baby girl. As the bestest aunty ever I may have   did spent a small fortune of pink clothing from Gap and Debenhams.

I celebrated my birthday (no I will not disclose my age!). It was a rather sedate affair this year but was lovely to spend time with my nearest and dearest. Also how cute is my Minnie Mouse hat gifted to me by the mother?!

Just some of my Christmas gifts

The Bestest bought me this onesie and it is fast becoming one of my most favourite items ever!

I posted in my wishlist about wanting decent makeup brushes so imagine my delight when the parents gave me these beautiful Dior brushes. they are almost too pretty to use. Second best present was definitely my Cambridge Satchel. Bigger than my red one from the previous Christmas, I have used this almost every day since.

This H&M dress was my outfit of choice for Hogmanay. Rather daring for me to be exposing the midriff but I have decided to step out of my comfort zone with clothing and what better time to start than New Year.

This whole outfit cost me the grand total of £44 thanks to some savvy sale shopping!

Dress: H&M

Shoes: Nine West

Necklace: H&M

Ring: Primark

January consisted of many relatives birthdays, some illness and wedding dress shopping! No not for me (alas) but the bestest got engaged on Christmas Day and as Maid of Honour it was my duty to offer critical analysis of dresses. Although the wedding isn’t until next August both the wedding dress and my dress have been purchased!

So much for Dry January – LOTS of cocktails were consumed, favourites were from Tonic and The Roseleaf.

How I Wore….. Coloured Skinnies

For someone who owns gazillions of dresses recently I’ve build up quite a collection of trousers – mostly from H&M. These bright ones are also H&M and cost me a bargainous £6.49 in the sale. Those of you who read my post about the INAA.com event will know that I wore these trousers with a pink top. Today however I opted for pink accessories.

I was trying to pose properly but with Yvonne being the photographer and her son Lewis shouting “Do your flamingo” the end results are quite comical!

029

Not sure why my arm looks so freakishly big though.

I love the pop of the aqua trousers with the fuschia accessories. Wore this outfit today to meet Yvonne, Christie and Lewis for lunch. Just went to Frankie & Benny’s in Ocean Terminal, food was nice although we had to wait an obscene amount of time for it. Start work at 5 today so I will need to swap my heels for some zebra print flats and I’m good to go.

Top: Peacocks, Trousers: H&M, Bag: DKNY, Sunglasses: Vintage, Shoes: Have had for so long I can’t remember where I bought them from!

I Can See Clearly Now The Rain Has Gone…

This post was scheduled for last week during that rare event when we had 2 sunny days in a row! Unfortunately it didn’t post  and now with the weather being back to normal (i.e. cloudy and blowing a gale) the effect is somewhat lost!

I practically live in black clothes so on the odd occasion I actually wear an ensemble that doesn’t contain any black I HAVE to take a photo and blog about it!

Green top: Henry Holland

Jeans: H&M

Caridgan & Shoes: New Look

Belt: Peacocks

Sunglasses & Bag: Vintage

I LOVE this colour combo. The outfit feels fun and is very casual for me but I still feel presentable! The top hs little swimming ladies on it as well as polka dots. Mixing that print with striped shoes and polka dot sunglasses shouldn’t really work but I think because it’s all in small doses I’ve carried it off. Unfortunately this outfit didn’t get an outting to anywhere exciting, a day of running errands 😦

What do you think of my outfit?

My £10 and Under Challenge

Regular readers will have heard me bleating on NUMEROUS times about being poor but my wardrobe is desperately in need of a colour injection and with Spring (supposedly) coming I’ve been looking online for cheap and cheerful pieces.

Matalan £10

Matalan £10

A basic maxi but the colour is fab and would look great with some turquoise accessories. My KG striped wedges, bought last year but never worn, will pull the whole look together.

River Island £10

River Island £10

Usually I’d pair this skirt with black but for summer it’d look sweet with a cream cami and gold accessories.

Boohoo £10

Boohoo £10

The sun shines and I’m immediately drawn to coral colours and I do love a maxi.

Forever 21 £9.75

Forever 21 £9.75

If we ever get a summer I plan on wearing this vest with denim shorts ala the model.

Forever 21 £9.75

Forever 21 £9.75

My blue heeled Carvelas would match these perfectly for a summer night out.

H&M £7.99

H&M £7.99

Again not very exciting but would go with loads of my exciting wardrobe.

What do you think of my choices and my challenge? Any other stores I should be checking out (apart from Primark?) for cheap and cheerful clothing?

Jazzing Up An Old Party Dress

Think the title kinda says it all: not everyone has money to fork out for a new party dress this festive period but looking good on a budget IS achievable thanks to statement jewellery. With most of these pieces being uber cheap you can afford to splash out on new shoes or a new bag to spruce up an old outfit too.

Necklaces/Collars

H&M £14.99

Collars are still BIG news and such an easy way to update a classic dress or top.

I particularly like the colour of this one.

Bad Candy £15.75

Talk about a statement necklace! This Egyptian style necklace would add a fashion punch to even the most basic of LBDs.

Talullah Tu £32

Grazia also featured this beauty and it’s easy to see why – the black and bling will go with almost any outfit and is a surefire talking point.

Bracelets/Bangles

Envious Desire £11.95

Add a touch of class with this cameo bangle

Talullah Tu £22

Piled on with other bracelets or worn on it’s own this pretty little number will be one hard working piece in your jewellery collection.

ASOS £18

Statement doesn’t always have to mean chunky: these bracelets and a cocktail ring would look glam.

Earrings

H&M £5.99

Blingtastic earrings for the price of a cocktail. Get in.

ASOS £15

With the mixture of colours in these earrings they are guaranteed to go with most of your wardrobe.

Oliver Bonas £18

These dainty earrings look very pretty.

Rings

Chelsea Doll £9

Delicate but oversized.

ChelseaDoll £10

Cos everyone needs a guardian angel to stop them from making an erse idiot of themselves at the work’s Christmas do 😉

Oliver Bonas £28

This intricate ring just screams Christmas to me!

Whilst I have included some high street stores I am such a supporter of smaller businesses/boutiques and lesser known brands which also means you have less chance of seeing someone wearing the same item as you.

The great thing about all these statement pieces is that none of them are overly festive meaning whilst they will jazz up your party dress they will work just as well with jeans and a tee come Spring.

How I Wore….Coloured Jeans

My problem with “casual” outfits is that I tend to over accessorize. This happened to me yesterday. Carla and I decided to go for a long walk along the beach as it was a fairly nice day so we headed for Cramond Island.

What I’m wearing:

Scarf – Vintage Balmain bought from a charity shop

Sunglasses – Vintage

Necklace – Debenhams

Longline Cardigan – Dorothy Perkins

Jeans – H&M

Shoes – Next

Bag – River Island (stolen from Yvonne)

I still feel very awkward when posing for outfit photos and I think it shows! We took about 30 photos and I only like about 4, do other bloggers find this or is it just me?

And here’s a photo of my photographer! Love Carla’s oversized scarf, the pompoms are too cute.

I’ve decided that I need to lose weight, I am currently a size 16 and would be happy if I was a size 12/14. I don’t want to do an extreme diets but I will start eating more healthily and do more exercise. With the beach being so close to my house it really is the ideal location to walk a few miles without it feeling like a massive effort.

Not to worry this blog won’t become a weight loss blog but I may post randomly about my weight loss.

My Recent Purchases

I’ve been awfully good to  my wee self lately and purchased quite a few well needed items. AND I also purchased my first Christmas present! Yes I know the “C” word might fill some of you with the fear but as Debenhams had their discount event on and I had some spare pennies it would have been foolish of me not to take advantage of the offer. Obviously I don’t want to say who I bought for or what I bought but come Christmas Day I’ll be excited to see said person’s reaction. But enough about other peoples: back to me!

Here’s what I’ve been buying:

This Henry Holland for Debenhams cardigan fills me with joy! Have worn it twice and had lots of compliments on it.

These H&M super skinny jeans are actually more of a cobalt blue and at a bargainous £14.99 I can see me buying them in almost every colour.

Obviously I’m not gonna get much use (if any) out of these Kurt Geiger wedges but the colours appealed to me and they were a super cheap £19 in the sale! These will be my staple shoes next summer

Despite me moaning about suede boots in my Winter Footwear post I couldn’t resist buying these River Island wedges boots and I’m SO glad I did! I have worn them everyday since I bought them on Saturday and they are super comfy and go with loads of outfits plus the strip of leopard print is very me!

I actually bought these boots to wear to the Musselburgh Races which I went to on Monday. Unfortunately we got rained on pretty early on in the day so I didn’t get any blog-worthy photos but I felt very cute in my ASOS shirt dress, black tights and these boots along with (p)leather jacket and my faithful Paul’s Boutique bag. It was the first time I’ve ever been to the races and I had an absolute blast! Having a winner and a second might have had something to do with that 😉

This little haul should freshen up my wardrobe quite a bit although I do still need to buy more trousers and a pair of winter boots.

Do you like my recent purchases? Have you bought anything prettiful lately?
